ISSUE: Cross Assignment of Judges (Temporary Assignment)

Summary: Modification of a provision in the constitution eliminating the word “temporary,” providing authority to cross-assign judges between county and circuit courts.

ISSUE: Governor Prospectively Fill Judicial Vacancies

Summary: Consideration of a provision in the constitution for the Governor to prospectively fill a vacancy that will occur due to a justice or judge reaching the mandatory retirement age, failing to qualify for a retention election, or failing to be retained in office at an election.

ISSUE: Judicial Nominating Commission (JNC) Composition

Summary: Modification of a provision in the constitution referencing the composition and appointment process of the Judicial Nominating Commission (JNC).

ISSUE: Judicial Performance and Evaluation Procedure/Commission

Summary: Consideration of a provision in the constitution establishing Judicial Performance Evaluation (JPE) programs used for various reasons including: to inform the voting public in states with retention elections (Public Information Model), to provide evaluations of individual judges for self-improvement (Confidential Self Improvement Model), and for administrative decisions regarding judicial assignment and retention.
